A Gentleman in Moscow

Based on the bestselling, universally acclaimed novel by Amor Towles, A GENTLEMAN IN MOSCOW recounts the story of Count Alexander Rostov, who in 1922 is deemed an unrepentant aristocrat by a Bolshevik tribunal and sentenced to house arrest in the opulent Hotel Metropol. Rostov, an indomitable man of erudition and wit, has never worked a day in his life, and must now live in an attic room while some of the most tumultuous decades in Russian history are unfolding outside the hotel’s doors. Unexpectedly, his reduced circumstances provide him entry into a much larger world of emotional discovery as he spends his life amongst the staff and guests of the hotel, who become his surrogate family over his thirty years at the Metropol. At once a touching and nuanced character study, and the story of how an unlikely hero quietly and bravely resists an oppressive regime, A GENTLEMAN IN MOSCOW is a humorous, heartfelt, and gripping story.

The novel of A GENTLEMAN IN MOSCOW has sold millions of copies worldwide, spent 59 weeks on the New York Times bestseller list after it was published in 2016, and was one of Barack Obama’s picks of the year.

The show will go into production for Paramount+ and Showtime in Spring 2023, starring Ewan McGregor as the eponymous Gentleman.
